Opened in 1989, Sheraton Lagoon Nusa Dua was one of the early flagship luxury resorts within the master-planned Nusa Dua tourism development. Its establishment marked an important milestone in positioning Nusa Dua—and Bali more broadly—as a premium international resort destination.

The resort was distinguished by its lagoon-centered design, a then-innovative concept in Bali hospitality architecture. Water features were not merely decorative but became the organizing element of the spatial experience, creating visual continuity, climatic comfort, and a strong sense of resort identity. Guest rooms, public areas, and landscape were arranged to maximize views and interaction with the lagoon environment.

Architecturally, Sheraton Lagoon Nusa Dua combined tropical modern resort planning with Balinese-inspired elements, emphasizing openness, shaded circulation, and seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces. The project reflected the late-1980s shift toward experiential resort design—prioritizing atmosphere, leisure, and spatial quality alongside accommodation.

As one of the pioneering resorts in Nusa Dua, Sheraton Lagoon played a key role in setting design, service, and planning benchmarks for subsequent hotel developments in the area. Its presence reinforced Nusa Dua’s reputation as a well-structured, high-end resort enclave and contributed significantly to the evolution of Bali’s modern hospitality architecture.
