LAKE SIDE HOTEL & CAFÉ – BEDUGUL BALI
Rusa by the Lake is a lakeside hotel and café concept developed in 2022 in the cool highland setting of Bedugul, Bali. Envisioned as an intimate destination overlooking the lake, the project draws inspiration from the area’s misty climate, mountain landscape, and tranquil atmosphere to create a refined yet relaxed hospitality experience.
As Concept Architect, the design establishes a clear vision centered on landscape immersion and sensory calm. The masterplan positions the hotel and café to frame uninterrupted lake views, while circulation and outdoor terraces are choreographed to encourage lingering, reflection, and connection with nature. Public and semi-public spaces are layered to accommodate both day visitors and in-house guests without compromising privacy.
Architecturally, the concept adopts a contemporary mountain–tropical language, responding to Bedugul’s cooler temperatures with sheltered verandas, generous roof overhangs, and warm material palettes. Timber, stone, and textured surfaces are proposed to enhance tactility and visual warmth, while large openings and controlled glazing capture light, views, and changing weather conditions around the lake.
As a concept-stage project, Rusa by the Lake represents an approach to hospitality design that prioritizes place, atmosphere, and experiential quality—positioning the development as a quiet lakeside retreat where architecture acts as a gentle frame for nature rather than its focal point.
