NORTH BEACH RESORT PALAU
CONCEPT ARCHITECT
RESORT AT NGARAARD STATE, REPUBLIC OF PALAU BY MR. SHALLUM ETPISON
North Beach Resort Palau is a resort concept developed in 2015 for a beachfront site in Ngaraard State, on the eastern coast of Palau. Appointed as Concept Architect, the project was envisioned to celebrate Palau’s pristine marine environment while establishing a low-impact, destination resort that aligns with the nation’s strong commitment to environmental stewardship.
The masterplan concept emphasizes coastal sensitivity and low-density planning, positioning accommodations and shared facilities to preserve natural shorelines, protect reef systems, and maximize ocean views and prevailing breezes. Guest circulation and service routes are carefully separated to ensure operational efficiency without compromising the serenity of the resort experience.
Architecturally, the proposal adopts a contemporary tropical language informed by local context and climate. Open pavilions, shaded terraces, and lightweight structures are integrated with the landscape to encourage natural ventilation and seamless indoor–outdoor living. Materials and forms are selected to sit lightly on the land, reinforcing a sense of harmony between architecture and nature.
As a concept-stage project, North Beach Resort Palau represents an approach to hospitality design that prioritizes place-making, ecological respect, and experiential quality. The vision positions the resort as a refined yet understated destination—one that offers comfort and authenticity while honoring Palau’s unique natural and cultural heritage.
