The Ngurah Rai International Airport Facade Design (2010) formed part of a major airport upgrade aimed at transforming Bali’s primary gateway into a modern international terminal while preserving a strong sense of local identity. The project was delivered through a joint operation with Indulexco and AT6 Arsitek, focusing specifically on the architectural expression and performance of the terminal façade.

The facade concept balances contemporary airport functionality with Balinese cultural references, translating traditional rooflines, proportions, and rhythmic layering into a modern architectural language appropriate for a large-scale transportation hub. Shading devices, perforated elements, and articulated surfaces were employed to enhance visual identity while responding to Bali’s tropical climate.

From a performance standpoint, the facade design addresses solar control, daylight modulation, and passenger comfort, supporting energy efficiency and clarity of movement along the terminal frontage. The articulation of the building envelope also reinforces the airport’s role as a ceremonial point of arrival, offering visitors a clear and memorable first impression of Bali.

As part of the 2010 redevelopment, the facade design at Ngurah Rai International Airport represents a successful integration of infrastructure, climate responsiveness, and cultural expression, demonstrating how large public buildings can remain both functional and deeply rooted in place.
