LONUDHOOHUTAA SURF RESORT
CONCEPT ARCHITECT
50 ROOMS RESORT AT SOUTH HUVADHOO ATOLL, MALDIVES BY BUSINESS IMAGE GROUP
Lonudhoohutaa Surf Resort is a concept design for an intimate, 50-room surf-oriented resort set within the remote and highly prized waves of South Huvadhoo Atoll. The proposal responds to the Maldives’ unique island ecology and surf culture by placing guest experience, marine access, and environmental sensitivity at the core of its design.
Project intent & position
- Designed as a boutique surf destination, the resort seeks to attract guests who prioritise direct access to high-quality breaks, authentic island ambience, and understated luxury. The compact 50-room scale supports a relaxed, low-density guest experience and easier environmental management.
Design themes & strategies
- Marine-first planning: Accommodation and circulation are arranged to prioritise lagoon and surfline views, safe launch points for boats and boards, and minimal disturbance to reef and shoreline systems.
- Indoor–outdoor living: Villa and suite typologies emphasize seamless indoor–outdoor transitions—open pavilions, shaded terraces, and breezeways—optimizing natural ventilation and guest comfort in a tropical climate.
- Local materials & craft: The concept favors a restrained material palette (timber, stone, woven elements) and local craftsmanship to root the design in Maldivian character while keeping construction pragmatic for an island setting.
- Sustainability measures: The concept anticipates responsible water, energy, and waste strategies—sited to reduce reef impact, manage runoff, and favour low-impact services typical of contemporary Maldivian resort practice.
Guest experience & program
- The master plan is organized around surf and marine activities: dedicated surf concierge and boat operations, a surf school/repair bay, conservation-linked guest programs (reef education, guided snorkels), dining venues oriented toward sunset views, and wellness spaces that leverage the island’s natural setting.
- Public spaces are compact and intentionally placed to preserve privacy for accommodation clusters while creating vibrant social nodes for dining and post-surf gatherings.
Concept outcome
As a conceptual master plan, Lonudhoohutaa Surf Resort balances the operational needs of a surf-driven hospitality product with architectural restraint and ecological respect—offering a boutique alternative to larger Maldivian resorts and targeting experiential travellers seeking high-quality waves and island authenticity.
