KUTA BUNGALOW RE-DEVELOPMENT DESIGN, 225 ROOMS AT KUTA, BALI BY MR. ONG
The Kuta Bungalow Re-Development Design is a hospitality renewal project undertaken in 2011 to transform an established bungalow-style property in Kuta into a 225-room contemporary resort. The project responds to Kuta’s dynamic tourism context by upgrading capacity, amenities, and overall guest experience while retaining the site’s legacy as an accessible beachfront destination.
The redevelopment strategy focuses on reorganizing the masterplan and building massing to achieve higher room yield without compromising comfort, circulation clarity, or environmental performance. Guest rooms, public facilities, and back-of-house functions are reconfigured to support efficient operations, clear wayfinding, and enhanced connections between arrival areas, communal spaces, and recreational facilities.
Architecturally, the design adopts a modern tropical resort language, integrating shaded façades, open corridors, landscaped courtyards, and indoor–outdoor public spaces suited to Bali’s climate. Material upgrades and façade articulation aim to refresh the resort’s identity while ensuring durability and ease of maintenance in a high-use coastal environment.
As a re-development project, Kuta Bungalow demonstrates a pragmatic approach to adaptive hospitality design—extending the life and competitiveness of an existing property through thoughtful planning, contemporary architectural expression, and alignment with evolving market expectations in Kuta’s tourism district.
