Dholhiyadhoo Resort is a conceptual masterplan for a 100-room luxury island resort developed for Business Image Group, with HST Architect acting as concept architect. The proposal responds to the Maldives’ island context by emphasizing marine-first planning, guest privacy, and seamless indoor–outdoor living.

Design Intent & Positioning

  • Positioned as a high-quality island resort that balances intimate guest experience with operational efficiency, the concept targets discerning leisure travellers seeking both beach and marine activities.
  • The masterplan strategy organizes accommodation and public facilities to maximize lagoon and ocean exposure while protecting sensitive reef and shoreline systems.

Key Design Themes & Strategies

  • Marine-First Planning: Buildings, service routes, and guest circulation are arranged to prioritise sea views, direct boat access, and minimal reef disturbance.
  • Low-Impact Clustered Layout: Accommodation is grouped into low-rise clusters (beach and water typologies) to reduce visual impact, enhance privacy, and improve microclimate performance.
  • Indoor–Outdoor Living: Suites and villas incorporate pavilions, shaded terraces, and breezeways to maximise natural ventilation and the island’s climate advantages.
  • Local Materials & Craft: The concept promotes a restrained palette (timber, woven elements, natural stone) and local craftsmanship to root the design in Maldivian character while keeping construction pragmatic for an island environment.

Program & Guest Experience

  • The resort program centers on beachfront and over-water accommodations, dining venues oriented to ocean vistas, watersports and dive facilities, wellness/SPA areas, and small-scale social nodes for dining and leisure—designed to preserve the island’s calm while offering rich marine experiences.

Sustainability & Island Stewardship

  • As a conceptual proposal, the design anticipates sustainable systems appropriate to remote Maldivian islands: energy-efficient building strategies, water conservation and greywater reuse, reef-aware siting, and waste management measures to minimize ecological footprint. These measures are consistent with best-practice island resort planning in the region. (See comparable island resort concepts for context.)

Concept Outcome

  • Dholhiyadhoo Resort presents a boutique-scale, responsibly conceived 100-room resort concept that seeks to combine marine access, intimate hospitality, and environmental sensitivity—a programmatic and architectural response aimed at long-term island stewardship and premium guest experience.
