The Rectorate Building of the Holy Spirit Seminary, Tuka is conceived as a key institutional building representing leadership, academic life, and spiritual values within the seminary environment. At the concept design stage in 2022, two alternative schemes—Option 1 and Option 2—were developed to offer different architectural approaches while remaining grounded in the same functional and philosophical vision.

Both options emphasize strong axiality and clear spatial hierarchy, expressed through a symmetrical composition, monumental columns, and a clearly defined main entrance axis. These elements symbolize order, authority, and openness, positioning the rectorate as a central point of orientation within the campus as well as a transition space between academic activity and contemplation.

Option 1 presents a more formal and institutional expression, with a solid building mass and the use of vertical shading elements that convey discipline and order while providing protection from the tropical climate.
Option 2 explores a slightly more open and expressive approach, introducing a more articulated roof form and layered façade treatments that create a lighter visual impression without diminishing the building’s sense of dignity.

From a climatic perspective, both concepts apply passive tropical architectural principles, including secondary façades, controlled openings, and well-proportioned building massing to support natural daylight and cross-ventilation. These strategies are integrated with an architectural language that respects the religious and cultural context of Bali, avoiding excessive ornamentation.

As Concept Architect, the design focus was on creating a rectorate building that is representative, functional, and symbolically meaningful—an architecture that not only accommodates administrative and academic functions, but also reflects the values of formation, leadership, and spirituality within the seminary community.
