MADIKERI PLANTATION RESORT
CONCEPT & SCHEMATIC FOR COORG
MADIKERI PLANTATION RESORT, KARNATAKA, INDIA
Madikeri Plantation Resort is a hospitality project developed at the concept and schematic design stage in 2022, set within the lush plantation landscape of Coorg, Karnataka. The project envisions a nature-immersed resort retreat that celebrates Coorg’s rolling hills, coffee plantations, misty climate, and serene rural character.
The design concept is rooted in low-impact planning and landscape integration, organizing accommodation and shared facilities along existing contours to minimize earthworks and preserve plantation ecology. Built forms are carefully dispersed to maintain privacy, frame long views across valleys and plantations, and create a rhythmic sequence of arrival, retreat, and communal experience.
Architecturally, the resort adopts a contemporary vernacular approach, drawing inspiration from local plantation architecture while incorporating modern comfort and functionality. Pitched roofs, deep overhangs, shaded verandas, and generous openings are employed to respond to Coorg’s climate—encouraging natural ventilation, protection from monsoon rains, and strong indoor–outdoor relationships.
At the schematic level, the project establishes clear program zoning, circulation logic, and spatial hierarchy, providing a robust framework for future design development. Wellness areas, dining pavilions, and social spaces are positioned as landscape destinations rather than dominant structures, reinforcing a calm, immersive guest experience.
As a concept and schematic proposal, Madikeri Plantation Resort reflects an approach to resort design that prioritizes context, restraint, and experiential quality—positioning architecture as a quiet complement to Coorg’s powerful natural setting rather than its focal point.
