AKOHARA RESORT
CONCEPT ARCHITECT
18 SUITES & 16 PRIVATE VILLAS AT PAYANGAN UBUD BY MR. JASON – SINGAPORE
Akohara Resort is a boutique hospitality concept developed in 2017 for a serene valley site in Payangan, north of Ubud. Envisioned as an intimate retreat comprising 18 resort suites and 16 private villas, the project is grounded in a philosophy of tranquility, nature immersion, and refined simplicity.
As Concept Architect, the design establishes a low-impact masterplan that follows the site’s natural contours, preserving mature vegetation and framing views toward river valleys and forest canopies. Accommodation clusters are carefully spaced to ensure privacy, quietness, and a strong sense of place, while shared amenities are positioned as calm social anchors rather than dominant focal points.
Architecturally, Akohara Resort adopts a contemporary tropical language informed by Ubud’s cultural and environmental context. Open pavilions, shaded terraces, and seamless indoor–outdoor transitions encourage natural ventilation and daylight, while natural materials and restrained detailing create a timeless, contemplative atmosphere. The villas are conceived as personal sanctuaries, offering generous outdoor living areas that dissolve boundaries between architecture and landscape.
As a concept-stage project, Akohara Resort represents a thoughtful approach to boutique resort design—prioritizing experiential quality, environmental sensitivity, and emotional connection over scale—positioning the development as a quiet, wellness-oriented destination within Ubud’s cultural heartland.
