KAMPUNG GAJAH WONDERLAND
CONCEPT ARCHITECT
KAMPUNG GAJAH WONDERLAND – BANDUNG
Kampung Gajah Wonderland was conceived as a family-oriented leisure and entertainment destination on the outskirts of Bandung, designed to combine recreation, nature, and local cultural character within a single integrated environment. As Concept Architect (2011), the role focused on shaping the overall vision, spatial structure, and experiential narrative of the destination.
The concept emphasized a “kampung” (village) theme, translating the scale, informality, and social richness of traditional Indonesian settlements into a contemporary recreational setting. Planning strategies prioritized walkability, clear zoning, and a sequence of themed attractions connected by landscaped pathways, open spaces, and gathering areas suitable for families and group activities.
Architecturally, the concept explored playful forms, contextual materials, and climate-responsive structures, creating a welcoming and non-institutional atmosphere. Buildings and attractions were designed to sit lightly within the landscape, allowing greenery, terrain, and views to play a central role in the visitor experience—an approach well suited to Bandung’s cooler highland climate.
As a concept-driven project, Kampung Gajah Wonderland represented an approach to leisure architecture that balances entertainment, place-making, and cultural familiarity. The 2011 concept positioned the development as an accessible, family-friendly destination rooted in local identity while offering diverse recreational experiences for a broad audience.
