Completed in 1994, Taman Sari Village Center was developed as a key community and commercial nucleus within the master-planned township of Lippo Karawaci. The project formed part of Lippo Karawaci’s early vision to create a self-sustaining urban environment, where daily amenities, social life, and public space are integrated within walking distance of residential areas.

Designed as a village-scale center, Taman Sari emphasized pedestrian-friendly planning, featuring open-air corridors, shaded arcades, landscaped courtyards, and clearly defined public gathering spaces. The layout encouraged social interaction while responding to Indonesia’s tropical climate through natural ventilation, shading, and greenery.

Architecturally, the development balanced functional commercial requirements with a human-scaled, approachable character. Rather than a single enclosed mall typology, Taman Sari Village Center adopted a more open and communal format, reinforcing a sense of place and neighborhood identity within the larger township.

As one of the early commercial developments in Lippo Karawaci, Taman Sari Village Center set an important precedent for integrated township planning in Indonesia during the 1990s. It demonstrated how retail, public life, and urban design could be combined to support livability, convenience, and long-term community growth.
