THE RITZ CARLTON BALI
DESIGN ARCHITECT OF RECORD
450 ROOMS BOUTIQUE HOTEL AT JIMBARAN, BALI BY P.T. KARANGMAS SEJAHTERA JAKARTA
Opened in 1992, The Ritz-Carlton Bali marked a significant chapter in the evolution of ultra-luxury hospitality within the Nusa Dua Tourism Development. Its establishment reinforced Bali’s growing reputation as a premier destination for high-end international resorts in the early 1990s.
The resort was distinguished by its dramatic cliffside setting, offering expansive views over the Indian Ocean. The design embraced the site’s natural topography, cascading buildings and open spaces along the contours of the land to create a strong sense of arrival, privacy, and visual grandeur. This approach exemplified a shift toward site-responsive luxury resort planning, where landscape and architecture are inseparable.
Architecturally, The Ritz-Carlton Bali combined tropical resort principles with refined international luxury standards. Open-air pavilions, generous terraces, water features, and carefully layered landscapes were integrated to enhance comfort, microclimate, and guest experience, while Balinese-inspired elements grounded the resort in its local context.
As one of the early luxury icons in Nusa Dua, The Ritz-Carlton Bali set new benchmarks for service, spatial experience, and resort positioning. Its development influenced subsequent high-end hospitality projects in Bali and remains a reference for cliffside and destination resort design in the region.
